Mario 3 was the best game for NES, Punchout, Ninja Gaiden.Thinking of buying a NES. What should I look out for?
They have the old one that looks like a grey box and then they have this redesigned one that is all futuristic looking. Get the redesigned one and it should have the best odds of running right. As for games check out my signature.
Well, I know what games to get. I have actually played the console. I just have never owned one.

If they have an official Nintendo top loader then get that if it's not too expensive. It helps protect against dust, and such which is why it was redesigned that way. Also, you could go in, and ask them if you can test it out on a TV first. Most stores I find that carry old systems always let you try them out on a TV.Also look for actual Nintendo brand controllers too, and perhaps the arcade stick, and light gun.
how much is this NES cause if the answer is over $15 then dont buy it cause you can get them cheaper at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or yardsales
If they have a top loader, buy that. although you'll have to connect it using coaxial.
If it is a front loader, ask them to test it out in front of you because those have tons of problems with the 72 pin connector.
K, I'll see if there are any top loaders, if not ill still get a regular nintendo. I'll report back later.
Yep,the front loader is the way to go with a nes.The lockout chip was bad on the old nes consoles about getting dirty, resetting the system, etc. Also the top loader has a snes style controller.I have an old snes and my 10nes chip in it is still good, but the top loader is the way to go for sure.
Easy just blow your cartridge that's all.
If you're lucky enough to find one, try and get a top loader. Those tended to be much more durable. If you can't, see if they can hook it up at the store to see if it works. If you're looking for game reccomendations, try out the Mario games, Metroid, Narc, tetris (if you don't already have it on some other system), Donkey Kong and DK Junior. And with that, I celebrate my 17000th post on the Gamespot forums :D
ask ifyou can do a plug in test and hookup the system some of those stores will boot the system to show you it works just to get it off the shelf
k well i went and picked up the system, because it was almost closing time when i got there i wasnt able to have the system tested. Anyways the system is not looking so good. All i get is flashing black and white screen. The good news is a made sure there was warranty. so ill see if i can get an exchange tommorow, and ill go earlier so i can make sure it gets tested.oh and for those wondering i got mario/duck hunt with it, and i bought ff1 and metroid.
I wish my first nintendo came with those games. I know you said you know what games to get but look at my damn list anyways you may have forgot or overlooked one hehehe.I've always had to rent games and sadly I have just never beaten FF1 lol.I have a strat guide for it and everything. I also loved the crap out of Ultimate: Quest of the avatar and have never beat it either. There is a 50% chance i trashed my last computer because of Ultima. I dl'ed a emulator and rom to play it(even though i still got a worked nes and can get that game dirt cheap off ebay grr). It was either that or porn that killed it.
Well i cant buy EVERY game in the whole store. haha. but it dosent matter right now cause i cant even play the damn games.
Get the 2nd model NES-top loader, other than that I don't get you question, no need to clarify for my sake b/c I won't be back.
I'm thinking of exchanging the nes for an fc twin console. anyone got any feedback on that thing?
I'm thinking of exchanging the nes for an fc twin console. anyone got any feedback on that thing?
they're very good, but just doesn't feel the same. you get crappy controllers. being an owner of all 3 (nes, snes, and fc twin) i'd say the originals are better, but the twin is better at loading the games. don't even need to blow into a cartridge to get it working.
