What's the best Castlevania game to start with?

So thinking back to when I played this Castlevania game my cousin had on GBA when we went on holiday, I got the urge to play it again. I though about it some more and decided to go for a different Castlevania game, and just work my way through the series as it's really beggining to interest me. What would be a good one to start with? Price isn't really an issue, and I like collecting so even expensive ones are okay. Any advice would be much appreciated! What's the best Castlevania game to start with?
The original way my favorite to be honestWhat's the best Castlevania game to start with?
It depends what type of Castlevania game you're looking for. You can either go with the open-ended adventure/exploration ones similar to Metroid or you can go with the linear action oriented games. For the open-ended ones, I'd suggest Symphony of the Night on the PS1 or Circle of the Moon on the GBA. For the more linear ones, I'd suggest Castlevania IV on the SNES or Castlevania III on the NES.

Personally, Castlevania IV is my favorite game in the series.
If you have a PSP, get The Dracula X Chronicles. It has Rondo of Blood, which is of the classic CV style, and Symphony of the Night, which started the modern style. If you can't get that, then go with SotN. It feeds well plotwise into many of the other games and isn't too challenging.
Akumajou Nendaiki: Akumajo Dracula (AKA ''Castlevania Chronicles'') for the Playstation. It includes the Sharp X68000 remake of the original Akumajou Dracula. Basically, the original game at its best form.

This may not be a popular opinion but Castlevania II for the NES was one of my favs. Classic 2d combined with exploration and RPG elements.-Byshop
you should just start from the beginning castlevania 1-3 are great classics the snes games have some good moments as well, I would only suggest starting with the later titles if you perfer the free roam as opposed to the set level design. on a side note though avoid castlevania 64 it's just not that good and kind of boring
Symphony of the Night is awesome, I'd start with that one. If you want some classic Castlevania action, try Super Castlevania IV for SNES, or Castlevania III for NES.
I'd also recommend Symphony of the Night, It is awesome, but also not very challenging, so you will be able to get into with not many issues.Actually, you should just get Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, if you have a PSP. It has Rondo of Blood (A remade version of it and then also it has the original version of Rondo of Blood), and also has Symphony of the Night, so you will get to sample the older, linear style gameplay of Castlevania with Rondo of Blood, and then also check out the more modern, open-ended style gameplay of Castlevania with Symphony of the Night, and in the end, be able to decide which style of gameplay you prefer in Castlevania.
Castlevania The Dracula Chronicles or what ever the name is for the one on PSP.
