The best incarnation of Double Dragon?

So which Double Dragon is your fav? I really liked super/return on the SNES, however the one on the GBA was really good too. Some people still prefer the first one on the Arcade cos of its gameplay and mechanics, which is yours? The best incarnation of Double Dragon?
I don't know which is the best, however number I %26II (Arcade) are defintely my favourites. I actually own the original arcade PCBs of both games (which surprisingly are rather cheap) as well as Double Dragon for the Mark III and Double Dragon II for the Mega Drive and PC-Engine.Some consider the Arcade Double Dragon as one of the best beat 'em ups of all time, but I think it's important to differentiate between influential and actually having the best gameplay mechanics.

[/QUOTE]I couldnt agree more my friend, people never seem to look at the gameplay, they simply judge the game on reputation. I think It's important that there are different mechanics in place with the different Double Dragon games.
I really like Double Dragon II and the one with battle toads in it on the SNES was allot of fun in my opinion.
Arcade Double Dragon is my favorite followed by The Revenge.
Wow, yeah, Battletoads/Double Dragon was terrific...though if it's just DD, I guess the first. I've never played it, but isn't there a Double Dragon 1 version with maybe two or three extra stages aside from the standard four (Slums, Industrial Area, Park and Base), almost rpg like elements and a different ending? Or am I going crazy? *blinkblink*Man...I miss beat-'em-ups...vigilantes kicking the tar out of thugs and punks and gang members, that's where it's at! I don't care what anyone says, I enjoyed Final Fight Streetwise...even though the whole zombie/monster thing at the end was going waaaaaay too far...although, there was Green Abobo at the end of the Park stage, what the hell was his deal? ;-)

You may be refering to the NES version which had extra levels, and you had to earn your moves by leveling up.
Umm the last one I got to play was Super Double Dragon for the SNES and that one would have to be my favorite. I loved that game. You could catch a guys punch and then bash him the face repeatedly with either your fist or your feet. Forget if there were any other special things you could do.

If you guys want a similar beat-em up type game why dont you try Naruto Uzumaki Chronicles 1-2 for ps2. Its the closest you can get I think.
Yeah, there's a bunch of games like Naruto and X-Men out there, which most of the time are okay...X-Men Legends, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Justice League Heroes, and most anime games, they're pretty decent for beating up bad guys, but...I'm talking about games like Streets of Rage, Final Fight, Double Dragon, even games like River City Ransom, the original Fighting Force on PS1, where you have a random group of tough guys taking down a whole huge crime organization or some big enemy group...like, on their own! It's way too simple a concept for most game designers nowadays, but...it'd be nice if it could see a revival, :-) They could probably remake Double Dragon, clearly that still has a decent size following!
I enjoyed NES version of DD. The extended levels were a real plus.
My favorite would have to be Double Dragon 2 for the NES, the music in that game is just awesome.
My favorite actually is The Battletoads and Double Dragon game for the Genesis, I loved the original Double Dragon games on the Nes, but this game combined two of my favorite beatem up series of games into 1.
Wouldent itBe good if you could have 5 players in Battle Toads %26 Double Dragons.
I like all of them except for 5, but my favorite game in the series is still the first one. I also like Battletoads and Double Dragon.

I was thinking of something along the lines of four player co op over Live/ PSN. Maybe they could do a new game with the features of say the first game? Super/Return is still my fav, and I would love to see it come to live:)
I'd have to say Super Double Dragon for the SNES. the controls felt good; decent challenge; good moves; good music.

Did you ever play the Japanese version called Return of Double Dragon? It had several features not found in the Eropean version, such as an option menu and different music on the levels
My Favourite is the Arcade Game. Simply because My Brother and I would spend Hours on end in the 80's in the aracade playing it
I loved 2 on NES. The music was great in that game also,I still find myself humming those tunes every now and then.
