It had to have been 2000 or 2001, definitely no later. My brother was playing a game (I'm about 80% sure it was on a PSX), and he asked me to watch the TV so no one would mess up his game. Of course, I took the controller and played his file for about three hours. I remember the background graphics were extremely similar to FFVII, but the characters looked to be 16-bit. And I was trapped (probably my own fault, I was a silly kid) in a city, so if there was a ''world view'' of some kind, I never saw it. The main character was a male with blue hair, I *think*, or green. Anyhow, I started out in a top-floor of a cottage, looking at a girl who was about to get married. I want to say there was a mirror in the room, and also roses. I remember thinking that something was off about the girl, because she seemed upset. Either she was evil or the man she was marrying was evil. Anyway outside it was nighttime, and all the cottages were closed, except one or two where I could get armor and potions and stuff. But my armor was crappy, as if it was near the beginning of the game, or right after my inventory got taken away(?). I don't know for sure because I kinda just jumped into my brother's file. Anyhow, it was at night, and all you could do was walk up and down the cottage-y little town, and at the top there was a perilous mountain with flying beasts that were too powerful for my puny butt to kill, and at the south end of the city, there was some kind of royal building, almost like a thrown or courtroom, where some lady was telling me I couldn't leave just yet. The only other place I could go was through the town, on the right there was a garden that had these orb-like flowers or something that lit up, and when I talked to them, it said ''the flowers are singing...'' or something like that. So basically, I was stuck in that area, unsure of how to get out. The music was eerie... the whole tone of this town, at least in that point of the game, was kinda dark/creepy. I also want to say you could switch characters somehow, or get another person into your party. Actually I think you could get a girl into your party... but you didn't start off that way. I want to say that she was stronger than the guy, because she could actually kill one or two of the mountain flying beast thingys, but die soon after.
I remember my brother also had rented Breath of Fire at this time, though I don't remember which one. I know it's a long shot... but does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about??Can you help me remember the name of this PSX title?
its really hard to find out which game u r talking about from the above decription but it reminds me somehow with few rpg titles like
grandia for ps1
final fantasy 7 on ps1
chrono cross on ps1
and chorono trigger on snesCan you help me remember the name of this PSX title?
Nope... I've played all those games actually, so I know it wouldn't be any of those. :/ Thanks for the suggestions, though!
I don't know if it helps at all, but the camera viewpoint was fixed, so the background was basically just a 2D pan-and-scan. The battles were very simple, most comparable to Lunar 2... they were also 2D, fixed viewpoint. My guess is that this game was released between 1996-1999.
Shadow Madness?
Breathe of Fire people usually have blue or green hair.. Legend of the Dragoon looked like FF7... Without knowing more about the story or what your guy could do I dont think I played it lol. Doesnt your brother remember??
Phantasy Star III or IV?
Star Ocean second story?
At one point I thought you were talking about Xenogears but thats not it.I was going to suguest that maybe it was a Breath of Fire Game, But im pretty sure its Not Breath of Fire 3 sinse I LOVE that RPG and know it insanely well.Legend of Dragoon? I dunno been to long sinse I played that,
I'm pretty sure it wasn't Legend of Dragoon or Star Ocean 2. That scene doesn't fit either of those games. Plus the protagonist were both blonde hair mails. Rena was blue haired, but female. I haven't played any of the breath of fire titles, so maybe it is one of those.edit: I want to say ''the flowers are singing..'' sounds familiar but I can't think of anything that is 16-bit
At one point I thought you were talking about Xenogears but thats not it.
that was my initial thought too.
It's definitely not Xenogears - I've played that one a few times so I can say that for sure. It seems most like Star Ocean: The Second Story graphically... but I want to say that the game I'm thinking of was just a little bit simpler. The battle system was just like early Final Fantasy games. and I checked out all the games you guys have kindly listed, but none of them are ringing a bell. :/ This is driving me nuts!
