Majora's Mask vs. Ocarina of Time (based on gameplay/story alone)

Obviously Ocarina wins if we're looking at them purely from a ''revolutionary'' standpoint. BUT based on the gameplay and the story alone, which wins?My vote goes to Majora's Mask. Beautiful, deep, atmospheric story, and I love all the masks. It made for some very interesting puzzles. It also probably has the best character development in gaming history. Then there's the ''three day'' thing. Genius. So, what say you?Majora's Mask vs. Ocarina of Time (based on gameplay/story alone)
Majora's Mask. For the same reasons you already said.In my opinion the best Zelda game period.Majora's Mask vs. Ocarina of Time (based on gameplay/story alone)
OOT ranks higher on my list just because it was so revolutionary and it awed me from start to finish, but throwing the whole revolutionary appeal aside I would say MM, so much stuff to do, lot's of secrets and I loved the setting.
Ocarina of Time, I liked the way the levels were set up but Majoras Mask was also an absolutely crazy beautiful amazing game.
Ocarina of Time, i actually didn't like Majora's Mask that much from what i played. I should probably give it a second chance but i hated the 3 day thing.
Majoras mask has more graphics and more realistic but the story is boring and annoying but Ocarinas story is large, fun, and a more interesting plot
Ocarina of Time for story and gameplay, but Majora's hands down for its concept.
Like everyone else has basicly said both great games and while occarina is more revolutionary on terms of just gameplay i'm giving majoras mask the edge awesome story and the masks just added to a great gameplay mechanic and the time loop was great
I played MM way before OoT actually. So when I played OoT and I thought MM was better and I still do. The 3 day cycle was hard for me at the time since I was young, buy I thought MM was an awesome N64 game.
When I think of sequels to games that have revolutionary value, I don't consider many of them better than the original.

I loved every GTA game that came after GTA3, but I would still consider GTA3 my absolute favourite.

Super Mario Sunshine was a great game, but SM64 remains superior in my mind (though of course many feel the same on this one).

Metroid Prime blew me away. But none of the sequels did for me what the first one did.

Majora's Mask, however, is a rare exception for me. I consider it superior to OoT, and I enjoyed it more (and don't get me wrong, I loved OoT). Aside from LttP, I'd consider it the best Zelda game of all time. It's Nintendo at their best. Zelda at its best.
I hated Majora's Mask.Bought it on release and was so disappointed. The whole thing that was great about OOT was how relaxing it was to play. It put you in another world, and you were free to go about it as you please. No rush. Just fun, for hours and hours. It had a positive vibe. Fun characters and an interesting story.MM on the other hand was nothing but rushing around. I really hate when they put time limits in games... any games... and to have a whole game based on one... :xThe game was also glooming and depressing really. For me, MM doesn't even come close to the epicness of OOT.
Didn't like the time system on MM. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have liked it more, everything else was great.
Didn't like the time system on MM. If it wasn't for that, I probably would have liked it more, everything else was great.
True, it got in the way of the gameplay. The world did have more depth than hyrule though. I can see how MM is an improvement in many ways but if I had to play one right now it would probably be OoT. Somehow it just feels like a more rewarding game.
I haver to say ocarina of time, that game was epic
In terms of gameplay and story my vote goes to Marjora's Mask. I loved the usage of the three-day system and the use of time which helped create a living breathing world.
I liked Majora's Mask more. The world felt a lot richer than Ocarina's, though OoT's world was vast, with a few small secrets. MM's time system gave the world more depth, having different things occur on different days, let's not forget the ridiulous 3 day long sidequest it had.OoT was more like the 3D realization of the classis Zeldas, where as MM tried just taking a step in a completely different direction.
Ocarina of Time, I absolutely fell in love with that game. Oh, and the time limit in Majora's Mask sucked a$$.
Ocarina of Time, I absolutely fell in love with that game. Oh, and the time limit in Majora's Mask sucked a$$.
I honestly never found it to be annoying. Now, the time limit in the Ocean King Temple in Phantom Hourglass is another story. But in MM I thought the 3 Days time limit added to the depth and intrigue of the game. It added to that eery feeling of paranoia that the game has. But I never felt restricted. I always felt like I had all the time in the world, for the most part.I just beat Ocarina of Time on the VCyesterday. I consider it to be one of the greatest games of all time. But I just felt much more satisfied by Majora's Mask. I can't explain it. There's just something about it that I like more.
OOT for me, man I remember when that game came out, pre ordered and got the gold cart 0_o
I like OoT more, since it had something like child and adult link, and the three colors of clothing. Majora's Mask was great, too.
