The original Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider II?...

I am just wondering what you people think is better. I have played each and everyTomb Raider ever since the original a WHOLE lot, but I have only actually completed the original and Anniversary in the past. But, for the first time ever I have actually played past the Offshore Rig level and I am now on the Dragon's Lair and boy, am I glad!I actually wasn't looking forward to Floating Islands as I remember looking at it and always hearing people found the level quite hard. But I finished it around an hour and I didn't get stuck once and it is actually one of my favourite Tomb Raider II levels now. Temple Of Xian isn't as long as people make it out to be, it took me just as long as to complete every other level. At first I quite liked Offshore Rig and Diving Area, but now I am on Dragon's Lair, thinking back comparing to all of these other levels,I didn't like them that much. I didn't really like the Underwater levels either at first, but they have also grown on me. For example, The Deck seemed to get on my nerves andI just wanted to finish the level because I was sick of it, but it is actually quite a good level. My favourite Tomb Raider II levels (up to this point, going to complete Dragon's Lair andHome Sweet Home tomorrow!), are as follows:

The Great Wall (****c)
Opera House
Barkhang Monastery
Temple Of Xian
Floating Islands

And from what I have seen of YouTube, it seems like The Dragon's Lair will also become one of my favourites this time tomorrow. I must say though, Tibetan Foothills is kind of overrated in my opinion. The level becomes quite boring and the handling of vehicles on this game is quite bad which makes it even worse. Yes, I know you can do the whole level on Foot, but those levels are made for the vehicles, and even then it would still be quite boring, to be honest. Great game though!I am not sure which is better... I love the music, atmosphere, levels, difficultyand feel of both games, and I know I haven't completed Tomb Raider II just yet, I pretty much know what to expect of the last two levels so I can safely say I know what both games are like as I have played them. The original Tomb Raider just has these great nostalgic feelings for itself, while Tomb Raider II also has a lot of nostalgic moments, the music doesn't seem as memorable or amazing as the first one. Also, it seems there are quite a few levels on the first one I just absolutely adore playing, but Tomb Raider II has levels which are equally as fun, evening both of the games' levels out quite nicely.

The levels I love on the original Tomb Raider are:
Caves (for the pure nostalgic feeling)
City Of Vilcabamba (also for the nostalgic feeling, but until a few years ago (quite a few now) I never explored past the big area with the three red doors, and that bit is awesome!)
The Lost Valley (no other levels or games can quite capture the feeling of that T-Rex and the music that accompanies it every time! this is really the only time I have ever got pretty scared going forwards in the Valley (the T-Rex on Anniversary just feels like an action game, so that is just like ''YEAH!'' which is the feeling you would get destroying Metal Gear on a Metal Gear Solid game... oh, also those damn mummies on that other level around those tight corners are the only other really scary thing)
Tomb Of Qualopec
St. Francis' Folly
Sanctuary Of The Scion
Atlantis
The Great Pyramid

To me Atlantis (Tomb Raider I) and Temple Of Xian (Tomb Raider II) have this very familiar feeling between the two. They are both great, but I think if somebody gave me the opportunity to play through eitherlevel with two TV's and PlayStation's side-by-side, I would probably choose to play Atlantis). It is just like Temple Of Xian but also has this amazing feeling to it that beats Temple Of Xian.

I am still unsure though... both games seem pretty equal, so I am wondering what is the GameSpot Communities' thoughts on which is better between these two games: Tomb Raider I and Tomb Raider II.

Please leave a vote in the poll, but I would also absolutely love it if people also gave their thoughts, evenifyou don't pickthe third option. Thanks! :DThe original Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider II?...
i cant decide between the two becuse there both great gamesThe original Tomb Raider or Tomb Raider II?...
I enjoyed TR2 a bit more. I should actually go back and play it since it has been a long time since I have played it. I never finished TR3, Last Revelation, or the Chronicles one. I might go back and do it now.
I have just completed Tomb Raider II. It was awesome!

The ''Home Sweet Home'' level wasn't as hard as I remembered when I used level skip cheats and stuff. I also had the impression that Floating Islands, Temple Of Xian and The Dragon's Lair would be hard levels. But they were all very easy and I didn't get stuck once! (well there was about 30 seconds a time when I had to remember where to go when I got a certain key etc.), but besides that it was pretty easy. I only died once during the fight with Marco Bartoli/the Dragon because I was stuck in the water and when I got up I didn't have enough time to move (I was picking everything up). So I restarted, got up and he didn't hit me once after that. I remember my dad having to get the Dragon to glitch (get stuck) to beat it years ago, but I wonder why because it was actually very easy LOL.

I always imagined Home Sweet Home to also be a very hard and quite long level from what I remembered, but that level was also very easy and short... I didn't have to use the Flares not once, and I used one health pack at the door where a lot of enemies come in, but I just picked up another of the dead guys but I didn't need it. The most confusing/hardest levels were the later Underwater levels, even then, it was just silly little things that got me stuck. For example, on The Wreck Of The Maria Doria, in that main, big room inside the ship there was this part of the roof (the floor) that, because it was an old game, it was hard to make out this ramp that you could walk up to be able to jump up. Also, for the Barkhang Monastery level, I figured out everything and I believe I got all 3 secrets? (can't remember) but there was one thing I wasn't able to do without looking online... it was just that stupid water room with strong currents... I didn't know you could swim close to the wall, even then I got dragged in the middle so even if I did figure it out by myself, I would have gone ''nah... that's wrong''. So basically, 85% of the reason I got stuck a few times in this game was because of the games old graphics and it is hard to figure some things out. But even still, both Tomb Raider I and Tomb Raider II are fantastic games... I think I may just have to click the ''equal'' option, because it seems II is the perfect sequel to I!

I remember watching my brother and dad having trouble to get out of the first room of The Great Wall all those 12ish years ago it came out, and I did play it a lot but I never completed it properly, but now almost 12 years later I finally complete it. I did a LOT of loading and stuff so my time would have been a lot higher than this, but according to the stats at the end the game took me about 14 hours and 50 minutes to complete. Excellent game, just as the original... now, I am thinking of completing either Legend of Angel Of Darkness fully... hmm, maybe not just yet...
Its a tough choice as they are both classics but Tomb Raider II just edges the win for me, I love the venice level and the opera House, as well as the Tibetan levels and floating islands. When I go back to play them I find I get bored of TR 1 quite quickly, where as TR 2 i can play the whole way through still.
TRII probably. I kinda like the levels more in the first one, though.
Tomb Raider II. I'm not sure exactly why, but all I know is I remember it being more fun.both are great games though.
TR2 is very much the foundation that the next few games would follow.

A big improvement over the first game.
I like Tomb Raider 2 better, however Tomb Raider Anniversary is my favourite Tomb Raider game ever, which is basically a remake of Tomb Raider 1. :P
