PS2/XBOX RPGs without random battles?

I always see games like FFX, FFX-2, and Dragon Quest VIII getting really high reviews, and I always want to play them, but I really can't stand the random battle element of the FF games. So I play games like Kingdom Hearts and Morrowind, RPGs without random battles, but something is missing. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Kingdom Hearts and Morrowind, but what's missing is the turn-based element. Now, I don't get to play too many normal RPGs because most of them include random battles, which, as I said previously, I can't stand. But games like Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Persona, where you can see the enemies before the fight, I prefer. What are some fairly simple turn-based RPGs, without random battles, that are on the PS2 and Xbox? Thank you very much for the help.PS2/XBOX RPGs without random battles?
Final Fantasy XPS2/XBOX RPGs without random battles?

Doesn't FFX have random battles?
Yeah FFX has random battles.. I'd suggest Star Ocean ''Till the end of time''. you can see the bad guys on screen before you get into a fight with them. Its more of an action RPG though and the speech is abit cheezey. But a good RPG none the less.
.hack I have heard is cool. Most RPG's have something random about there battles. Star Ocean and .Hack are your best bet. The Tales series on PS2 is probably cool, but I don't know if you can see the enemies before you run into them. What is so annoying about random battles anyway? You might want to try western RPG's like Fable or Knights of the Republic
What's so annoying is when you have a RPG with a high encounter rate. You can't even move 5 feet before getting in a new battle.
The Tales games would be good. You can see the enemies before you get into a fight.
KOTOR. the battles can be played turn based and they are not really random. I do not agree with fable though, thats not turn based and its more Action/Adventure at least in that part of the gameplay.
Sudeki is pretty fun and it can be played kind of turn-based, if you use a melee character, and you're thinking micro-turns, like in KotOR.
The Tales games would be good. You can see the enemies before you get into a fight.
Agreed, Tales would be your best bet. Also in Persona 3 and 4 you can see the enemies before you fight. I definatey reccomend the persona games if you like turn based battles.
Tales games are good - have to say I completely agree that random battles can be extremely annoying.

Some awesome games come off just annoying when there are enemies popping up every 5 seconds..
Why hasn't FF XII been mentioned. :| FF XII would be perfect for you. Unless you've already played it?
-Valkyrie Profile 2 (turn-based/real-time hybrid)

-Persona 3 %26 4 (turn based)

-Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (real time)

-Tales of the Abyss (real time)

-Xenosaga (turn-based)

-Radiata Stories (real-time)

-Final Fantasy XII (real-time)

Someone else keep this list going.

I was thinking of FFXII, but I'm a little confused by the whole fighting system. I just don't get it.

Seriously, give the game a go, you will find it the opposite :)
Grandia II (PS2, DC) I suggest the dreamcast version if you have one.Grandia III (PS2)
If you dont like RPG with random battle you could try those games Rogue Galaxy . Dark Cloud1,2 ( It's a lot like Kingdom Hearts) Baldur Gate Dark Alliance 1,2. Champion of Norrath ( Action RPG, Like Diablo)
FFXII doesn't have random battles, try it
Persona 3 %26 4 are both great games without random battles. Though battles are mandatory because the bosses in the games are ridiculously hard (except the last bosses) unless you level up properly.
