Whatever happend to the story that got link into Majoras Mask?

Dont you remember how apparently the whole reason Link left Hyrule was because he went looking for Navi the fairy was that just a one off idea that didn't go anywhere or did I miss something?Whatever happend to the story that got link into Majoras Mask?
I think...he just went off for the heck of it? I still think he was in the Korkeri woods though when Skull Kid confronted him.Whatever happend to the story that got link into Majoras Mask?
yea he probs was there but the storyline def went that he left on a personal quest to find his friend who departed after he saved Hyrule
Maybe it was Sarah? She was a sage, so maybe she disappeared retroactively? I can't think of anything else; Zelda would be in the castle and Navi would have no reason to leave.But does that mean Link would never found sarah, his story was never continued.
he was looking for his friend as said in the game, its hinted to be Navi cuase of the fairy noise (could just be Tatl or Tael though) when the text leaves the screen and the fact that she left at the end of OoT.while he was searching the skull kid knocked him off Epona and stole it and the ocarina... while link was chasing him down he was cursed (Deku scrub) and walked through the entrance to Termina, Trapping himself.
