Only on Chapter 3 right now and it to me is a fantastic game, theres a lot you can do but it's starting to feel a little repetative and that's the only downside of it to me.Why is Dark Cloud 2 a 9?
I hated the story and most of the characters. Other than that the game was pretty good.
Obvious answer, the reviewer isn't you.
It all comes down to personal opinion. As for me, I loved the first one a whole lot more despite the fact that many people didn't.
The only problem I have with Dark Cloud 2 are the randomly generated dungeons. That is the laziest thing to happen in video gaming history and I personally loath them. For that reason alone I give Dark Cloud 2 a 7.5. It's not a bad game, it's just... a bit ruined by the lazy dungeon design.
don't bash on random dungeons until you've played Persona 3. It's got random dungeons and it's probably the best RPG I've ever played. It is worth noting that I hated Dark Cloud 2. The combat is boring, the characters are boring, the music is boring, and having to grind for hours just so you can build a town is boring. I couldn't force myself to play any longer once I got to the clifftop area. Everything about Persona is exactly the opposite.
Wow. Personally I love the game to death and think it was one of the best games the ps2 had to offer. Easily in the top 10. The game has awesome combat that is very similar to Zelda, Okami, Kingdom Hearts games which is what more and more people are turning to as they grow ever sicker of playing through craphole turn based rpg's. The mini-games give you additional ways to have fun with the game and even though fishing or fish racing or fish battling werent super awesome they were atleast fun and Spheda(golf) WAS awesome. The random dungeons that Epoq bashes to me are freaking REVOLUTIONARY and the direction ALL games need to head towards. Maybe it sucks because you have to find your way through them each time?? But to me it makes it a new experience each and every time you enter one. And couple that with having to gather materials to build weapons and make stuff for towns and the replay value is just off the chart.
I have played through that game atleast 3 times and each time I do the moment I finally get to start playing I lose all track of space and time and all of a sudden my eyes are bloodshot, my stomach is grumbling, I have to pee like a race horse, and im tired as hell. = don't know what else you could possably want from a video game.
I thought it was a pretty good game. Just didn't like making towns, had to spend a ton of money and figuring out what fulfilled the objectives.
AbBaNdOn: You're right, the combat is similar to Okami, Zelda, and Kingdom Hearts except for one major difference. It's vastly inferior. Also the story is pretty much useless in carrying the game. I felt like I was grinding for hours in bland looking dungeons for the sole reason of building a town capable of teleporting me to the next town. Idk. I didn't get too far before I gave up on the game, maybe the story gets more interesting but I doubt it.

That's another thing, the game was so repetitive. You do the same stuff every dungeon and that is for every town.
The mini games were really fun though. Just fishing and breeding and racing fish was super addictive and fun. I played just that minigame for hours at a time. The story and characters were forgetable but the weapons and upgrades were fun to play too. I thought the score was well deserved, the game played very well.
How is it vastly inferior?? Its exactly like those other games only UNLIKE them you actually have stats on your weapons.

Yeah fishing was fun, and I enjoyed the golf game when I got to the dungeon where you wouldn't go off the course.

I thought the breeding was boring, and I didn't bother with the racing. I did enter the fish contest, but couldn't get higher than 2nd place.

That's the point of this thread. How could they rate a game a 9 that's obviously not for everyone. That's grounds for a 7 rating.

Having stats on your weapons doesn't make or break a game. The action in Okami and Kingdom Hearts is much more fluid, and the art and graphics are much more interesting. Dark Cloud is repetative and there's nothing really memorable about it. Star Ocean TTEOT is another action RPG that plays much better.

That's what I love about Kingdom Hearts. The battle system was so fluid and I can't seem to find a JRPG that has matched it yet.
